Welcome to SL Tutoring UK

Hello, I'm Elizabeth Lavelle, founder of SL Tutoring UK.

I am a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience in education, having taught and led across primary schools since qualifying in 2003. During my career I have worked as a class teacher, curriculum leader, Assistant Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Throughout my career I have been passionate about helping children develop confidence, independence and a genuine belief in their own abilities. Whilst academic progress is important, I believe the most successful learning happens when children feel safe, understood and supported.

I work with learners aged 5–16 and have extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, PDA, dyslexia, dyscalculia, speech and language needs, physical disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs.

Many families come to SL Tutoring UK because they are looking for more than subject knowledge. They are looking for someone who can understand their child, build relationships, identify barriers to learning and create an approach that works for them as an individual.

As a former Assistant Headteacher and Level 3 Designated Safeguarding Lead, I place children's wellbeing, confidence and safety at the heart of everything I do.

Additional GCSE Support – Meet Heidi

One of the most exciting developments at SL Tutoring UK this year has been welcoming my niece, Heidi, to support some of our GCSE learners.

Let's be honest – I sat my GCSEs last century! Whilst my experience as a teacher helps me understand how children learn, build confidence and prepare effectively for examinations, GCSE qualifications have changed significantly over the years.

For Heidi, GCSEs were just two years ago and she has continued her studies at A Level in Mathematics, Physics and Law. This means she brings a recent understanding of current specifications, examination techniques and the realities of being a student in today's education system.

Heidi supports learners in:

  • GCSE Mathematics
  • GCSE Physics
  • GCSE Biology

Although Heidi is not a qualified teacher, she comes from a family full of educators and has always enjoyed supporting younger learners. As the eldest child in the family, it has been a pleasure to watch her help her younger sister prepare for GCSE examinations and support younger cousins as they navigate primary school and the transition into Key Stage 3.

Behind the scenes, we work closely together. I support Heidi with lesson planning, teaching strategies and approaches to learning, whilst she regularly reminds me of all the content I've forgotten since my own school days!

For many learners, this partnership offers the best of both worlds:

  • My experience as a qualified teacher, former Assistant Headteacher and educational professional.
  • Heidi's strong academic knowledge and recent experience of GCSE and A Level study.

Parents and carers will always know whether sessions are being delivered by Elizabeth or Heidi, and pricing reflects the differing levels of experience and qualifications.

As Heidi continues to work with learners, testimonials and feedback from families will also be shared on the website.

We are incredibly proud to be able to offer learners the combined benefits of professional teaching experience alongside recent academic success and subject expertise.
